Gardeners Advice

Anyone Else Want to Take the Pain out of that First Cut of the Season?

Who says lawns can only be cut during the summer months? Take this gardener.s advice and you can enjoy your garden in winter too. You don't have to wait till your lawn has become a waterlogged mess. You can mow on fine winter days providing it's not too frosty or too wet.

The Secret is to Transfer the Moisture

Swish the grass (on the morning you intend to mow) with a long, supple cane to remove the water droplets off the blades of grass. This will allow the moisture to drop onto the soil which allows it to dry more quickly. Lightly rake the surface to remove any dead leaves or debris. Set the blades of your mower on high. Mow lightly and quickly, to prevent the weight of the mower from dragging and weighing down the grass.

Good Planning leads to Successful Gardening

Tackle one job at a time. If you.ve set out to plant new plants and you spot a flower that needs deadheading, leave it. Do the job you set out to do! This gardener.s advice has helped me more than I thought possible, because when I plan to do a job I look at the garden overall, whereas once I get started I often used to find myself sidetracked. Remembering to keep focused has helped me to prioritise and get more jobs done. It.s saved me from ending up with pot-bound unhealthy plants that I haven.t had time to plant.
